One of our goals in our travels is to find beautiful places to photograph.
We met that goal and then some this last summer.
“Oh the places you’ll Go” from Dr. Seuss comes to mind as we headed out for the summer of 2023. This last summer took us to more places and greater distances than we have ever traveled before. Our destination was, in general, the Western US, and more specifically Washington, Colorado, Arizona, Utah and back to our home state of Oregon. From Mt. Rainier (standing 14,410 feet), the fifth largest National Park, to the Rocky Mountains in Colorado with its majestic peaks of over 14,000 feet, it was a Summer To Remember. We were able to photographic landscapes with beautiful sunsets and towering sandstone rock formations in Monument Valley.
We took the road less traveled to the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, or the “other side” of the Grand Canyon, that provided dramatic views and more spectacular sunsets. Next we went to Zion National Park in Utah with its high plateaus, a maze of narrow, deep, sandstone canyons, and the Virgin River.
We spent the final week of our trip in Bend, Oregon and hiked in Smith Rock State Park, which turned out to be a beautiful morning and excellent hike.
