Leaving the Mesa Verde Area we drove 250 miles southeast to another area rich in Native American culture as well as a Spanish influence known as Santa Fe, New Mexico. Santa Fe is the quintessential southwestern town for art, culture and history and if you are a fan of adobe and Southwest architecture, it’s a great place to wander, especially if you are a photographer. Santa Fe is home to hundreds of galleries, artisans, museums, and churches, all of which are heavily influenced by the beauty and immensity of the landscapes which surround the town.
Some highlights
- Santa Fe is home to 19 Native American pueblos whose timeless cultures, arts, traditions and beliefs still enrich the area today.
- The churches in Santa Fe are abundant. We photographed many of them and really came to appreciate the cultural history they provide. At Kasha- Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument you are rewarded with a great hike through a slot canyon and unique rock formations once you are through the canyon, and the “view at the top” is spectacular.
